In society today having a mental illness is still a taboo subject even though 1 in 4 of us will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime. With such a large number of people affected by mental illness, you would think it would be more widely spoke about.

In today’s society when we are bombarded with ‘perfect’ images of how we are supposed to look, and if we do not look like that then we are body shamed for the way we do look. There is a pressure on young girls and boys (lets not forget that boy’s also suffer). We are led to believe that unless we are ‘thin’ nobody will love us, nobody will want us. When in actual fact this is the furthest from the truth. Nobodies’ worth comes from there weight.

How did you feel reading those words? Did you feel uncomfortable? Maybe even flinch a little? Maybe some of those words resonated with you. Now what would you think if I said someone says all of those to me everyday and more? You’d probably say get rid of that person from your life who says all those horrible things to you. Now what would you say if I said the person ho says all those things to me everyday is me?
